Have you ever told a parent or grandparent that you really like something and then quickly been bombarded and completely overloaded with whatever you said you liked? Well that is exactly what happened to me this past week. My mom mentioned to my Nana that I was asking about zucchini flowers and when to pick them and how to prepare them since we have our own garden this year. Well, I got a call from my mom telling me that Nana sent me “some” flowers since she had so many. I put the word some in quotes because what was brought to my house was not “some”. It was a giant pile of zucchini flowers.
I don’t know why I was surprised by this given the fact that my Italian family makes extra food just to make sure there are leftovers for everyone to take home :). She also sent over some cooked stuffed flowers, which I quickly devoured. Thanks Nana!!!
It always amazes me when you go to a restaurant and you can get a few of them as an appetizer for like $20. Maybe I should set up a stand outside my house and start selling them. I could make a lot of money with all of these!
Zucchini flowers are only around for a short period of time during the year so I have to make sure I get my fill of them and I think this pile will get me there. I was so excited to start cooking with them, but I knew I was not going to be stuffing all of these since there were so many and I really just didn’t have the patience for it so I had to get creative.
This week I will be sharing some of my favorite zucchini flower recipes so make sure to check back.
